'The day I became a woman'
From an exhibit inspired be Edgar Allan Poe
The lovely living room (bronzed blender on the floor)
Bronzed blender in a private home  (in memoriam of the gold fish holy mess)

I was getting my roots touched up today and picked up the Danish interior design magazine Bo Bedre while at it. I browsed through the magazine but stopped at a page where an image of a man caught my eye. I liked the expression on his face, the chair he was sitting in and the glimpse of his living room. I liked his little owl collection and the fact that this man is a Chilean born architect/artist living in Copenhagen. (I have had a longtime obsession with South-America, where I have never been, but have spent enough time in Denmark for a lifetime). I might even say that I was intrigued. Believe me, the cute little owl collection was a pretense. This man makes such provocative art that I was scared to look. One exhibition contained an installation where gold fish had been put in a blender and it was up to the guests to press the button. Of course someone did and all hell broke loose. Well that's just the tip of the iceberg. The rest of his dark universe I don't understand...Call me close minded ;)

Held ekki ;)

Knitted house

© Dusty
Culture night is always fun and inspiring. This time we went to Reykjavik Art Museum where a knitted house was exhibited. The museum guests were  invited to knit and the pieces that were knitted became a part of the house. You could also make a drawing of  your own house and put it up right there on the museum wall. Adam really enjoyed this and put a lot of work into his drawing. Really a nice exhibition for the whole family.

PARIS'S DUSTY GEM

I'm leaving for Paris next week, for work. Thankfully I'll have some time to enjoy the city and maybe do a little shopping. During my Paris research (yes I'm a research freak) for things to see and do this time around, I stumbled across this fascinating piece about an apartment in the 9th arrondissement -Pigalle, that was uncovered in 2010 and up until then it had been locked and preserved exactly as it was left by the owner, a woman named Madame de Florian, who went to the South of France before the World War II, never to return. When she died at the age of 91, the apartment was discovered along with many of well preserved treasures and a thick layer of dust. The rent had been paid dutifully throughout the 70 years and therefore, a portrait painting of Madame de Florian's grandmother by Boldini, one of the Belle epoque masters, among other beautiful items had been hidden all this time. Love this story :)

I adore fashion art. It is playful, colorful and charming. I have two beautiful pieces in my living room and would like to collect more. What I love about these pieces is that they aren't deep or symbolic (well not in the conventional artsy way). They aren't trying to be anything else than what they are -fashion art. They please the eye and evoke a certeain feeling of magic. -Maybe I'm being a tad bit nostalgic, but they kind of remind me of the eighties. :)

Evren Tekinoktay is an artist who comes from a Turkish background and lives in Denmark. She has had a lingerie shop in Copenhagen for some years which  has some affinity to her art which is very feminine, delicate and pretty. I'm drawn to all the shapes and colors and they remind me of some things from my childhood; books, cartoons, amusement parks and maybe even bed linen and wallpaper. All things that spell fantasy and fairytale. Evren Tekinoktay has collaborated with designer Stine Goya on some prints and she is a part of the Moonspoon saloon design collective. Jill Stuart´s spring/summer 2012 collection was inspired by Evren's art-work. I love that Evrens' work is easily translated into fabric. I think that she is a great inspiration both as an artist who is very feminine and also because she is very current and successful.
