Við Áróra kíktum við í Madison Ilmhús í gær. Eitthvað sem við höfðum ætlað að gera síðan það opnaði. Það var ekkert smá gaman að skoða alla fegurðina þarna inni. Allt fullt af fallegum ilmvatnsflöskum, ilmkertum og snyrtivörum. Þarna finnur maður gæðamerki sem ekki fást annars staðar hér á landi og ef þú ert orðin þreytt á að versla þér fjöldaframleidd ilmvötn úr smiðju kvikmyndastjarna og söngkvenna og langar í eitthvað persónulegra þá er Madison verslun sem þú ættir að heimsækja. Við Áróra erum frekar ólíkar þegar kemur að ilmvötnum. Áróra notaði sama ilmvatnið frá Dolce & Gabbana í 15 ár, þar til hætt var að framleiða það og tók sér langan tíma í að leita sér að nýjum ilmi. Hún féll að lokum fyrir klassíker frá Chanel. Ég hinsvegar hef nánast aldrei getað klárað neitt ilmvatn því ég fæ leið á öllu strax og er í eilífri leit að hinum eina sanna ilmi. Eitt ilmvatn hefur komist nálægt því að verða "minn ilmur" og það er Gypsy Water frá Byredo sem fæst einmitt í Madison. Ég tók því á rás að Byredo hillunni um leið og ég kom inn í verslunina og hnusaði af öllum ilmvötnunum. Ég spreyjaði á mig ilminum Seven veils og varð fyrir svipaðri upplifun og þegar ég spreyjaði á mig Gypsy Water í fyrsta sinn og fann bara lykt af gamalli ferðatösku (!) nema hvað Seven veils ilmurinn minnti mig á grænan frostpinna úr æsku. Kannski ekki undarlegt að ég eigi erfitt með að finna mér ilmvatn með svona brenglað lyktarskyn ;) En ég held einmitt að þau ilmvötn sem fást í Madison kalli frekar fram tilfinningar og tengingar við tímabil og upplifanir heldur en bara lykt af sápu, sítrónu, eða vanillu ef þið skiljið hvað ég er að fara... Við Áróra vorum sammála um að næst þegar við þyrftum að kaupa gjöf handa sjálfum okkur, einhverri kynsystur eða sönnum karlmanni, þá væri Madison Ilmhús fyrsta stopp og ef við værum í vafa um hvað hentaði viðkomandi þá eru einnig seld falleg gjafabréf. Þau merki sem má finna í ilmhúsinu eru m.a. Kilian, Nasomatto, Cuirs, Eight & Bob, Clive Christian, Maria Lux og Aesop. Vörurnar eru fallegar (og í dýrari kantinum) og þjónustan góð. Það er líka snyrtistofa á staðnum sem býður upp á hinar ýmsu húðmeðferðir. Það er ekki annað hægt en að mæla með svona fallegu Ilmhúsi og ótrúlega gaman að þessi gersemi sé staðsett í hjarta Reykjavíkur.

Áróra and I went to Madison Ilmhús Perfumery yesterday. Something that we had intended to do since it opened. We were met by a whole lot of beautiful perfume bottles, scented candles, skin products and cosmetics. You can find  luxury brands that are not available elsewhere in Iceland and if you are tired of shopping your mass produced movie star perfumes at the airport and want something more personal, Madison is worth the visit. Áróra and I are rather different when it comes to choosing perfume.  Áróra used the same perfume by Dolce & Gabbana for 15 years, until they stopped producing it and after that she took a long time looking for a new fragrance . Eventually she fell for a Chanel classic. I've almost never been able to finish a whole perfume bottle because I get tired of it right away and therefore I am on an eternal quest for the one true fragrance. Only one perfume has come close to becoming "my scent" and that is Gypsy Water by Byredo which happens to be available at Madison. I marched straight to the Byredo shelf as soon I came into the store and sniffed all of the perfumes. I ended up spraying Seven veils on my wrist and had a similar experience as when I tried on Gypsy Water for the first time, which I thought smelled like an old suitcase (!) Except Seven veils reminded me of a certain green popsicle from my childhood. Perhaps it is not that weird  that I have trouble finding my one true perfume with such a distorted sense of smell ;)  Although I think that Madison's perfumes have that in common that they evoke certain feelings and memories rather than just smell like soap, citrus or vanilla if you know what I mean... Áróra and I agreed that next time we need to buy a gift for ourselves, any female friend or family member, or a real man, then Madison Perfumery would be our first stop. If you are unsure of what would suit the person you can purchase a beautiful gift certificate. The brands that are available at Madison include Kilian, Nasomatto, Cuirs, Eight & Bob, Clive Christian, Maria Lux and Aesop. The products are beautiful (and a little expensive) and the service is good .There is also a beauty salon on site that offers various skin treatments. We can wholeheartedly recommend this beautiful Perfumery that is a treasure located in the heart of Reykjavik.
