Ég var svo heppin að fá að hlusta á hinn íslenska Ingvar Helgason, annan stofnanda hönnunar tvíeykisins Ostwald Helgason, tala um hönnunina og sögu merkisins á uppskeruhátíð fatahönnunarfélagsins sem haldin var fyrir viku. Ekkert smá gaman að heyra hann segja frá því hvernig svona vörumerki verður til. Eiginkona Ingvars, Susanne Ostwald hannar flíkurnar og þau byrjuðu starfsemi sína í litlu þorpi í Þýskalandi (þaðan sem Susanne er) en fluttu til London 2008 og hafa verið þar síðan. Það var ekki fyrr en fyrir stuttu, eftir að hafa þegið góð ráð, og tvíeykið ákvað að einbeita sér að bandarískum markaði að eitthvað mikið fór að gerast. Nú sjást allar helsu skvísurnar í Ostwald Helgason hönnun og þegar myndir fóru að birtast af Natalie Joos og Miroslava Duma klæddum Ostwald Helgason fatnaði á tískuvikunum, voru það sannanir fyrir því að lukkan væri að snúast. Á efstu myndinni er Christine Centenera ritstjóri ástralska Vogue, í peysu frá Ostwald Helgason. Ingvar sagði að það hefði allt orðið vitlaust þegar Christine birtist í peysunni og þau hefðu orðið að gera fullt af peysum í kjölfarið. Það tekur tvo daga að handgera hverja peysu og það er flókið ferli en þau hjónin gerðu þær sjálf. Sérkenni Ostwald Helgason eru litagleðin, mynstur og gæði efnanna sem notuð eru. Þau koma frá ítölskum verksmiðjum, þeim sömu og gera m.a. efni fyrir Dior hátískuvarning (couture). Fyrir utan hvað þetta eru rosalega flott föt er örugglega draumur í dós að klæðast þeim. I was lucky enough to be able to listen to the Icelandic Ingvar Helgason, 1/2 of the designer duo Ostwald Helgason, talk about their designs and the history of the label, at event aranged by the Icelandic fashion designer association a week ago. It was really interesting to hear him speak about how a brand comes to life. Ingvar's wife, Susanne Ostwald is the creative force and the two started up the label in a small village in Germany (where Susanne is from). In 2008 they moved to London and have been there since, but it was only a short while ago after taking some good advice, that the duo went to America and success followed. Now, fashionistas like Natalie Joos and Miroslava Duma are spotted wearing Ostwald Helgason at fashion week events. In the top image above, Christine Centenera, the editor of Australian Vogue is wearing a Ostwald Helgason knit to a Christopher Kane show in London in 2011. Everyone went crazy for that knit and Susanne and Ingvar had to meet the sudden demand. It took 2 days to make just one sweater and they made all of the sweaters themselves, by hand. The characteristics of Ostwald Helgason designs are the colors (and colorblocking), prints and the quality of the fabrics they use. They come from Italian mills that also make fabrics for Dior Haute Couture. Asides from being very beautiful and interesting clothes they probably feel like a dream to wear.
